Phil Wahba covers retail, consumer goods and restaurants for Fortune magazine and its website, focusing on how big companies from Walmart and J.C. Penney to Target (including the cover story in March 2015) and Kohl's are re-inventing themselves in a changing world. He has appeared on Al Jazeera, CNBC, Fortune Live and other broadcast venues to share his expertise. Before joining Fortune, Phil was a correspondent at Reuters where he covered retail and consumer goods for five years after covering the 2009 car bankruptcies and 2008 financial crisis for the news agency. Before joining Reuters, he was a regular contributor to the New York Sun’s business section. Phil worked as a trade commissioner for the Canadian Consulate in New York for 11 years before deciding to go into journalism. He is a native of Montreal, holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University’s journalism school, an MBA from the University of Ottawa and is a CFA charterholder. He is an obsessive runner and is now halfway through his quest to run a marathon in each state.
